(LESSON 59):-- A Five Minutes Warm-Up For Peak Performance
Have you not noticed that professional artists and athletes warm up before they perform? Obviously it helps them perform better. So why do we not warm up to function more effectively? We do just assume that somehow we will automatically be in peak condition to work?
Why not spend a few minutes warming up our mind and body, especially at times when we want to be at our best? Here is a five minute routine we created for getting relaxed, energized, focused, positive, and present.
Minute 1: Relax: -- Stand up. Shake out your entire body, from head to toe. Close your eyes. Take a deep relaxing breath. Breathe in slowly to the count of ten and then out to the same count of ten. Complete ten such breaths. Ride the wave of your breathe for one minute.
Minute 2: Energize: -- to get your energy moving, start clapping. Keep clapping louder and faster. Then begin stomping while you clap. Stomp and clap faster and faster, louder and louder. If you need to warm up somewhere silently, try the quiet version of this exercise --- finger snapping. Snap your fingers quickly with both hands for one minute.
Minute 3: Focus: -- now you are relaxed and energized. But you do not want to be a loaded loose cannon bus. You want to focus your energy toward accomplishing your goals. Withyour eyes closed, take a minute to visualize your goals and dreams as if they were already happening. Imagine you are living your dream. Go into every detail. Savor the full experience of it for close to a minute. Then focus on what steps you will take today to make those dreams reality.
Minute 4: Anticipate Success: --with your eyes still closed, prepare for a successful day by taking another minute to review your past successes and the things in your present life that give you great pleasure.
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude toward the many things for which you are grateful. Imagine once again the future you anticipate enjoying. Imagine yourself managing whatever problems you encounter. See yourself responding skillfully to any unexpected developments. Feel the excitement as you anticipate achieving your goals.
Minuet 5: Get In Touch: -- before opening your eyes, begin to connect with your environment. Hear and sense what is going on around you. Slowly savor the sounds and sensations. Now open your eyes and take full notice of your environment.
Allow your attention to linger over the objects, sights and sounds about you. See colors. Notice textures. Let the day spring to life. Think of the people you will be contacting. Connect with your memory of them. Imagine yourself making contact with everyone you meet or talk with.
Resolve to take the time to look them in the eyes, to reach out a hand to them, to tell them something about you and find out about them.
Now feel a wave of calm and boundless energy streaming through your body. Acknowledge that you are alive, and relish the moment. Imagine that energy carrying you like a river effortlessly through the day.
No doubt, with these ideas, you should be well engaged to make change in your life and stick to healthier habitual and moral lifestyle for the long term.
And my final two points should be:
1. Knowledge without action is entirely useless. You are now well equipped with tools to use and change your life, now it is time to do it. I know you have a lot of goals that are important to you, then, use these ideas to make it a reality.
